About Pet Aftercare Guide

Why this site exists

Losing a pet is one of the hardest moments a family goes through, and the information available online when you need it most tends to be confusing, sanitized, or selling something specific. Pet Aftercare Guide is the resource that should have existed: honest pricing, real reviews of local providers, and clear guidance for the decisions that have to be made quickly.

What we do

We review pet aftercare providers (cremation, in-home euthanasia, aquamation, memorial products) in the largest US metros. For each city, we collect provider pricing directly from their published lists, vet their identification and tracking protocols, and pick the three to five we would recommend to a friend.

Every featured provider page tells you not just what they do well, but where they fall short. There are no sponsored placements, no “top 10” filler, and no pay-to-play listings.

How we choose providers

We do not list every provider in a city. We pick the ones that meet three standards:

  1. 1Transparent pricing online, or willingness to share it on a quick call without an upsell.
  2. 2Clear pet identification and tracking protocols, with a real answer to the question “how do I know I’m getting my pet’s ashes back?”
  3. 3Verifiable local presence: a real address, working phone, and recent reviews from this year.

We also explicitly note limitations: weight restrictions, geographic coverage gaps, after-hours fees, or service tier upsells. If we would not call them for our own pet, we do not feature them.

How we make money

Some of the providers on this site work with us through affiliate partnerships. If you book with them through a link on our site, we receive a small commission. The price you pay does not change.

Affiliate commissions never influence our recommendations. If a provider does not meet our editorial standards, they do not appear here, no matter what they would pay us. Providers who pass our review but are not affiliate partners are still listed when they are the right fit for a family.

Who we are

We are pet owners who built this site because we wished it existed when we needed it.

When our own pet passed, we were not ready for how disorienting the next twenty-four hours would be. The cost guides online were vague. Provider websites were either upsell-heavy or impossible to navigate. We called a half dozen places, got quoted three different prices for the same service, and made a decision under stress that we second-guessed for weeks afterward.

That experience is the reason this site exists. Our pets deserved better than a confusing scramble, and so did we. Pet Aftercare Guide is our attempt to give other families a calmer starting point: the honest information we could not find, organized in one place, written by people who have stood where you might be standing right now.

We are not a veterinary clinic, not a crematory, and not affiliated with any provider chain.

What to expect when you call a provider

A few things will make the conversation go more smoothly during a difficult moment:

  1. 1Have your pet’s approximate weight ready. Most pricing is weight-based.
  2. 2Ask whether pickup and transportation are included or charged separately.
  3. 3Ask how the provider tracks your pet from intake to ashes returned.
  4. 4Confirm the timeline before you book. Typical turnaround is 5 to 10 business days for flame cremation, 7 to 14 days for aquamation.
