CodaPet Review

The most transparent national in-home euthanasia network: you see the full price breakdown before you commit, sedation is included, and the booking process is the cleanest in the industry. Smaller coverage than Lap of Love, but if they're in your city, they're worth a close look.

CodaPet is a national network of licensed veterinarians offering in-home pet euthanasia across the US. Their standout feature is price transparency: unlike Lap of Love, CodaPet shows you the full cost estimate, including vet fee, travel fee, and platform fee, before you confirm your booking. Sedation is included in the base price, online scheduling works in most cities, and the vet contacts you directly before the appointment. It serves 74 of the 174 cities on our in-home euthanasia pages, against 89 for Lap of Love, and is strong in mid-size cities.

What They Do Well

CodaPet is the most price-transparent national in-home euthanasia network we've reviewed. Before you confirm an appointment, the platform shows you a complete cost breakdown: euthanasia service fee, travel fee, and platform fee, all itemized. No 'call for a quote,' no surprises after the appointment, no discovering a surcharge you didn't expect. For a family making decisions under emotional duress at 11pm, knowing the full number before committing is genuinely valuable.

Sedation (pre-medication) is included in the base price and is part of the standard protocol. The vet performs an at-home assessment of your pet's condition, administers the sedative to ensure comfort, and proceeds only when your pet is fully relaxed. This two-step approach is the standard of care, and it matters that it's described clearly on their website and not presented as an optional add-on.

Booking is the cleanest of any national provider: search your city, see available vets with their profiles and ratings, get a price estimate, and schedule, all without picking up the phone. The vet contacts you before the appointment to answer questions and address any specific circumstances. Trustpilot reviews from 2025 and 2026 are consistently positive, with families citing the vets as compassionate and gentle.

Where They Fall Short

CodaPet serves 74 of the 174 cities on our pages: solid coverage, but smaller than Lap of Love's 89. If you're in a mid-size city, a suburb, or a rural area, check CodaPet's availability first. They may not have a vet near you. Lap of Love is more likely to have coverage outside major markets.

A platform fee applies on top of the vet fee and travel fee. CodaPet describes it as 'a small percentage of the total' that supports vets with non-medical items. The exact amount is shown in your estimate before booking, so you won't be surprised, but it does make the total higher than the vet's base rate alone, and it's worth factoring in when comparing.

CodaPet offers euthanasia and cremation coordination, but not hospice or palliative care. If your pet is declining slowly and you want a veterinarian who can guide you through the weeks before a final decision, whether quality-of-life consultations, telehospice visits, or a palliative home assessment, Lap of Love offers these services; CodaPet does not.

Aquamation is available through select vets only and is not offered across the full network. If aquamation is important to you, confirm availability in your city before booking.

Pricing Deep Dive

CodaPet shows you the full price before you confirm. The total includes three components:

  • Euthanasia service fee: varies by city, from $275 to $500 on our city pages, typically $350 (checked in September and October 2026)
  • Travel fee: based on your distance from the vet; some locations have none
  • Platform fee: a small percentage of the total, shown in your estimate

Starting prices by city on our pages:

  • Denver and Springfield, MO: from $275
  • Fresno, CA: from $300
  • Charleston, SC: from $325
  • Ogden, UT and Santa Rosa, CA: from $500

Coastal cities and major metros typically run higher than these starting figures. The full estimate, including all three fee components, is shown on the booking page before you confirm, with no obligation to proceed.

Cremation is priced separately and added during booking:

  • Private/individual cremation (ashes returned): quoted by weight and type, for example $75 to $375 in El Paso and $100 to $525 in Winston-Salem; on our city pages private cremation for a medium dog typically costs $220 to $325
  • Communal cremation (ashes not returned): typically about $100 to $150 for a medium dog on our city pages
  • Aquamation: available through select vets only, priced individually
  • Keepsakes (paw prints, fur clippings, urns): some included depending on vet, others available as add-ons

Ashes are returned in approximately 2–3 weeks after the appointment. Timing varies by vet and cremation partner.

Cancellation: free up to 4 hours before the appointment. Within 4 hours: $100 fee. This fee is waived automatically if your pet has passed before the vet arrives.

A strong fit if:

  • Families who want to know the exact price before committing, since CodaPet's full estimate is shown before you book
  • Families in major metros where CodaPet has strong vet availability
  • Pet owners who prefer managing everything online without a phone call

Consider alternatives if:

  • Families in smaller cities or rural areas where CodaPet may not have coverage
  • Families who need veterinary hospice support during a slow decline, since CodaPet doesn't offer this
  • Families who specifically want aquamation, since it's available through select vets only, not network-wide

Other Options to Consider

Lap of Love: better if you're outside a major metro and need wider geographic coverage, or if you want hospice and quality-of-life consultation services alongside eventual euthanasia. Pricing is not shown upfront. Requires clicking through each vet's page. Paws at Peace: better for NYC families who want euthanasia and aquamation handled by one local team with fully fixed published pricing.

Our Verdict

CodaPet solves the single biggest problem with national in-home euthanasia networks: you don't know what you'll pay until after you've committed. On CodaPet, the full estimate, covering vet fee, travel fee, platform fee, and cremation add-ons, is shown before you confirm. For a family making this decision under grief and time pressure, that matters.

The booking experience is the best we've seen: clear profiles, upfront pricing, online scheduling, and a vet who calls before arriving. Reviews consistently describe the appointments as gentle and compassionate.

The trade-offs are real. Coverage is thinner than Lap of Love's: 74 of our 174 cities against 89. If you're not in a major metro, check availability before counting on them. The platform fee adds to the total. And if you're navigating a slow decline and want hospice guidance over several weeks, Lap of Love is the better fit.

But for families in a city where CodaPet operates, who want transparent pricing and a clean booking experience: CodaPet is where we'd start.
