Pet Aftercare Guide

Garden Stones and Grave Markers

A marker gives a pet a place. It can sit in a favorite garden corner or over a burial spot, and it turns a patch of ground into somewhere you can visit. This guide covers the choices that decide whether a marker still looks right years from now.

Typical price: Most engraved stones and markers run $30 to $150. Large granite markers reach $200 or more.

Buying guide

Material decides how long it lasts outdoors. Solid granite is the most durable and holds a deep engraving for decades. Cast metal such as bronze or aluminum lasts well and suits a plaque style. Resin and stone-look composites cost the least and are fine for a sheltered spot, but they fade faster in full sun and frost.

Match it to where it will live. For a garden or grave that sees weather, choose granite or metal and confirm the piece is rated for outdoor use. For a covered porch or an indoor shelf, a lighter material is fine.

Look at the engraving, not just the shape. A deep, sandblasted or laser cut engraving stays readable as the surface weathers. A shallow printed design can wear off. If you want a photo or a paw print, ask how it is applied and whether it is sealed against UV.

Plan the wording early. A name and dates are the core. A short line, a paw print, or a small image adds warmth without crowding the stone. Order early, since engraving adds a few days to most pieces.
