Pet Aquamation (Water Cremation): Costs and Providers by City

Aquamation, also called water cremation, is a gentler alternative to flame cremation. We research every city we cover and show which families have a provider nearby, and which do not. Browse by state below.

How aquamation works

How aquamation works in five steps: a stainless steel chamber of water and potassium hydroxide, sealed and heated to 200 to 300 degrees Fahrenheit for 6 to 8 hours, soft tissue becomes a sterile liquid while the bones remain, the bones are rinsed, dried and ground to a fine powder, and white to tan ashes are returned, about 32 percent more than flame cremation, most within 10 to 14 days.
